Team Lump / AVA in Chattanooga, TN
July 2,2010 - August 27,2010
AVAThis Summer I got a chance to go to TN with the Team!
Team Lump is an artist collective that has been actively collaborating for over a decade. The group began as an outgrowth of the Raleigh, North Carolina project space Lump. Bill Thelen, its founder, curates artists into the collective, and the team fluctuates slightly on a project-to-project basis. Team Lump has had solo exhibitions at Cell Projects in London, Space 1026 in Philadelphia, Plus Ultra and Cinders Gallery in Brooklyn, Artscape in Baltimore, SouthEastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, Suitable Gallery in Chicago, Milky World in Seattle, The Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta among others. Their work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Sculpture, Time Out - London and New York, The Independent, NyArts Magazine, Proximity, Art Papers, and many on-line journal.
Team Lump is:

This episode curated by
Tory WrightAcid Rain ProductionsAcid Rain Production is a televised experimental video series that I (Jerstin Crosby) produce and curate. It currently broadcasts on cable access channels: The Peoples Channel, and Durham Access Media in North Carolina, and Manhattan Neighborhood Network in New York. Acid Rain Production is a unique venue for contemporary video work in which a single video art piece loops consistently for one hour, several times a week, for one month, on community-based tv stations that reach directly into homes and businesses. Through the medium of television, I hope to successfully link new-media artists to the community at large and bring about a better understanding of contemporary issues of artistic practice and social concern.
Participating artists include: Josh Tonies, Ben Russell, Peter Burr, Jesse McLean, Thad Kellstadt, Michael Robinson, Ryan Trecartin, Jacob Ciocci, Niels Post, Laura Larson, Jesse Hulcher, David Colagiovanni, Lydia Moyer, Carl Diehl, Tony Balko, Guthrie Lonergan and Jason Polan.

DIY RAPTURE / CELL GALLERY/ LONDON/ July 4th-August 2nd 2009
North Carolina is a region of the USA that international art media often overlook. With an attempt to recognise an alternative view of American culture Cell Project Space invite Team Lump, an artist collective based in Raleigh that has been actively collaborating with other artists, galleries, institutions and museums for over a decade. By acknowledging practices from artist run communities based in the lesser known regions of the USA the exhibition will attempt to highlight the unique identity which Team Lump and its artists have adopted.
Founder, Bill Thelen, invites artists into the collective, and consequently the team fluctuates from project to project. In an informal but public exhibition space they share a typically connected DIY aesthetic and within their self publishing activities document a flourishing peripatetic art scene, which is reminiscent of many artist run collectives throughout urban America. Drawing from fields as diverse as folk art, nuclear physics, science fiction, animal rights, outsider psychology, electronic music, and film noir they platform art, music, performance, discussion and event. Developing ideas organically, Team Lump adapt to each new exhibition space, installing a mix of paintings, drawings, sculpture, wall drawings, and film to create a seemingly chaotic vision, which tap into distinct commentaries.
